The smile is a facial feature. A dark yellowish central incisor that dominates a smile can hardly be missed.

At the same time, when we try to replicate the neighboring tooth in porcelain or in composite resin, we need to match not only the form but the same translucency, fluorescence, surface texture & other individual optical effects if present. The match has to be invisible to the human eye in all light environments and that makes this task very difficult.

Even though digital dentistry has given us the ability to replicate natural teeth in a more predictable way, so far only human hand final finishings by highly skilled professionals provide a seamless aesthetic integration or more humbly said push the perception of the replica the closest possible to nature.
